Abstract
415,628. Photo-mechanical printing- surfaces. WESSTROM, R., Rotebro, and OLSON, G. V. H., Stockholm, both in Sweden. Dec. 16, 1933, No. 35495. Convention date, March 13. [Class 98 (ii).] In a method of making printing blocks from originals which include half-tones, a screen is used having two sets of transparent elements, coloured in substantially complementary colours, in place of the usual transparent and opaque elements, and the half-tones of the original are coloured in correspondence with one of the colours of the screen. A screen consisting of two sets of yellow lines crossing at right-angles may be used, the intervening square spaces being coloured blue-violet. The half-tones are then given a wash of blue-violet colour. The sensitive emulsion is so chosen that the white parts of the original give an approximately equal blackening under both parts of the screen. In the half tones, the yellow lines absorb the light and thus act like the opaque lines of the usual autotype screen. Suitable dyes for the screen are Metanil Yellow and Victoria Blue.
