Abstract

357,864. Double and multiple woven fabrics. ASTON, E. VON, 5, Hillstrasse, Eupen, Belgium. Dec. 1, 1930, No. 36146. Convention date, Oct. 28. [Class 142 (iv).] In porous fabrics used for sporting dresses, curtains, coverlets, filtering cloth, &c., a fundamental fabric of warp and weft threads a, b, Figs. 1 and 2, woven plain as shown, or twill &c. has a set of warp and weft threads c, d constituting a kind of additional fabric interlaced therewith, the warp threads c all extending under the wefts b, and the wefts d all extending under the warps a. All the wefts d extend over the warps c and form them into loops, which extend into and brace open the meshes of the fundamental fabric. As shown in Fig. 5, fabrics comprising two or more layers of warp and weft threads may be combined by the additional threads c, d, which in this case form a complete fabric. The threads c, d may be of different materials, thickness, twist or colour to the threads a, b and may comprise animal vegetable and mineral fibres. The number of threads c, d may be less than that of the threads a, b, so that the loops of the threads c may only enter certain of the meshes of the fabric a, b and thus produce fabrics with strips or squares denser or more porous than other parts of the fabric, thus producing designs &c. These may also be produced by weaving the additional threads into the fundamental fabric in the manner described in portions only, and interweaving them in the ordinary manner in other portions of the fabric.
