Abstract

357,807. Hair - waving appliances. DUCART, G., 27, Boulevard Voltaire, Paris. Qct. 14, 1930, No. 30706. [Class 131.] In hair-waving apparatus in which the hair wound in layers on a spool is treated with vapour, the vapourgenerating tube 1 is provided with an absorbent lining soaked in the solution to be vaporized and terminates at its lower end in a bell 1a having an oval or elliptical mouth in which the spool 18 is mounted. The mouth of the bell 1a is closed by a rubber block 5 provided with a flange 5a which embraces the bottom of the bell, the block being split for the major part of its length to allow of the passage of the hair. The block is secured in position by a clamp engaging in a recess in the block and comprising pivoted arms 8, 9, the free ends of which are secured together by a bar 12 pivoted at one end to the bar 9 and provided at the other with a screw adapted to bear against the outside of the bar 8. The block is provided on the bottom with projections 5c which bear on the scalp. The spool 18 is mounted in forked supports 16 carried by a base 16a secured by screws 17 to the block 5, one of the end faces 18a of the spool being provided with perforations which coact with a projection formed on the corresponding support 16 to allow the spool to be rotated in one direction only. The spool is rotated to tighten the hair by a key provided with a cotter pin engaging a slot in one end of the hub 18b. The absorbent lining comprises a split sleeve 2 frictionally engaging in the tube 1 and covered by a layer of absorbent, e.g. asbestos, mounted between two layers of fine metal gauze. The vapours, generated by a heating device applied around the tube 1, are conducted from the apparatus b y a tube 21 extending from the bottom of the bell through the closed upper end of the tube 1.
