' 1930. Serial vices, and particularly to devices for winding tresses of hair for hair-waving treatments; the present application being a division of my co-pending application Serial No. 331,994, filed October12, 1928. v I I In general, it is an object of the invention to provide a device of the character'descrlbed which is simple and economical of manufacture and on which tresses of hair may be readily and securely wound. 7
Another object is to provide improved means for facilitating the windingof hair on a curling device. v
Other objects of the invention will in part be obvious and will in part appear hereinafter.
The invention accordingly comprises an article of manufacture possessing the features, properties and the relation of elements which will be exemplified in the article here-f inafter described, and the scope of the appli cation of which will be indicated in the claims.
For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of the inventionreieren'ce should be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which: 7
Fig. 1 is a partly sectional view of one form of hair-curling device constructed 1n accordance with the invention; and I Fig. 2 shows the curling device with the hair wound thereon.
In winding tresses of hair on acurlingdevice, and particularly inthe Croquignole method of winding, inwhich laterally spread tresses of hair are wound upon themselves on a curling device, it is desirable to provide means for permitting a free rotation of the. curling devlce, in the direction in whichthe hair is'to be wound,while resisting rotation in the opposite direction.
There is shown in myco-pending application, above referred to, one form of such device wherein the curler is provided at one end with a knob and at the other end with a key member or supporting means to which there is attached means fitting'within one end of the curler for controlling the rotation there 311,994. of The present invention contemplates the p rov1s1on ofa. curler of thejtype under cons derat on, whereln the support ng means is rigidly .held in place byan independent oelement, whereby lateral movement of the.curling element with respect to the holding elenientiis ,prevented -and whereby strain on a One form of -Jdevice, embodying the invention is. shown in the drawings. This device comprises alcurlingelement 10 having at within a reduced diameter of recess 18, which IS dJ SPOSQd inwardly ofthe recessl l. Inior+ der to prevent a lateral movement of. the
holding element 12 and the sleeve 13 with.re. spect tothe curling element 10, there is fixedly mounted ,on. the holding element 12 a rod 19 which, in the present, instance, extends en.-
may "throughout thev length of "the curler and carriesatits freee'nd a disk '20, which 'fits within ,alrecess 21 in the knob. There is thus provided a sturdy and easily operable construction wherein transverse movements of. thesleeve 13, which will tend to result in ,inefiicient operation as well as in unnecessary w r, is a d d; v
' since certain changes maybe ;made in the above articleand different embodiments of the invention could'be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown. in the accompanying drawings rotationcontrollingmechanism is eliminated.
shall beinterpretedas illustrative and not in alimiting sense. I y
- It is also to be understood that the following claims areintended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the invention herein described, and all statements offthe scope of the invention which, as'a matter of language, might be said to fall therebetween.
Having described my invention, what I disk attached to the end of said rod and fitting within the recess of said knob.
2. A hair-curling device, comprising a curling element, an attaching element, a stepped chamber at the end of the curling element adjacent said attaching element, a sleeve on said attaching element extending into the outer portion of said chamber, a spring fitting within said sleeve and within the inner portion of said chamber, and a member carried b said holding element and extending into said curling element for preventing longitudinal movement of said curling element with respect to said holding element. p 3. A hair-curlin devicecomprising a. curl ing element, a hold ingvelement, means to prevent relative rotation of said curling element and said holding element in one direction while permitting relative rotation of said elements in the other direction, and a member carried by said holding element and extend ing into said curling element for preventing longitudinal movement of said curling element with respect to said holding element;
4. A haincurlin device comprising a curling element, a holding element, means to pre-' vent the relative rotation of saidelements in one direction while permitting relative rotation thereof in the other direction, and a rod connected with said holding element and extending through said curing, element and provided with a disk-like member at its further end for preventing relative longitudinal movement of said holding element and said curling element.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
