Serial vices, and particularly to devices for winding tresses of hair for hair-waving treatments; the present application being a division of my co-pending application Serial No. 331,994, filed October12, 1928. v I I In general, it is an object of the invention to provide a device of the character'descrlbed which is simple and economical of manufacture and on which tresses of hair may be readily and securely wound. 7

Another object is to provide improved means for facilitating the windingof hair on a curling device. v

Other objects of the invention will in part be obvious and will in part appear hereinafter.

The invention accordingly comprises an article of manufacture possessing the features, properties and the relation of elements which will be exemplified in the article here-f inafter described, and the scope of the appli cation of which will be indicated in the claims.

In winding tresses of hair on acurlingdevice, and particularly inthe Croquignole method of winding, inwhich laterally spread tresses of hair are wound upon themselves on a curling device, it is desirable to provide means for permitting a free rotation of the. curling devlce, in the direction in whichthe hair is'to be wound,while resisting rotation in the opposite direction.

A hair-curling device, comprising a curling element, an attaching element, a stepped chamber at the end of the curling element adjacent said attaching element, a sleeve on said attaching element extending into the outer portion of said chamber, a spring fitting within said sleeve and within the inner portion of said chamber, and a member carried b said holding element and extending into said curling element for preventing longitudinal movement of said curling element with respect to said holding element. p 3. A hair-curlin devicecomprising a. curl ing element, a hold ingvelement, means to prevent relative rotation of said curling element and said holding element in one direction while permitting relative rotation of said elements in the other direction, and a member carried by said holding element and extend ing into said curling element for preventing longitudinal movement of said curling element with respect to said holding element;

A haincurlin device comprising a curling element, a holding element, means to pre-' vent the relative rotation of saidelements in one direction while permitting relative rotation thereof in the other direction, and a rod connected with said holding element and extending through said curing, element and provided with a disk-like member at its further end for preventing relative longitudinal movement of said holding element and said curling element.
