Abstract

An electrical insulating varnish comprises boron nitride mixed with resin-lac, a cellulose acetate lac, shellac, or other insulating lacs.ALSO:An electric insulating composition comprises boron nitride mixed with other insulating material which may be either organic, inorganic, or a mixture of both. Boron nitride, preferably in the colloidal form, may be mixed with a binder such as hydrated silicic acid, kaolin, aluminium silicate, titanium dioxide or other refractory silicate or oxide, and worked into a plastic mass, which after moulding into shape under pressure is slowly dried and then baked in a porcelain or electric furnace with a slowly rising temperature. The insulating properties of glass, porcelain, steatite or porcelain glazing may be increased by the addition of boron nitride. Other insulating compositions are formed by the addition of boron nitride to rubber, balata, guttapercha, paraffin, artificial resins, asbestos, shellac, or cellulosic materials.
