Abstract

In the manufacture of a reflector for light or heat prepared by firing on to a fusible enamel or like surface on a base a metal or alloy applied in powdered or other form, the fusible surface has a p hue similar to or the same as that of the metal or alloy or is of such a colour, e.g. white, which if necessary masks the colour of the base but does not adversely affect the colour of the reflected light. The metal or alloy used is selected according to the desired colour of the reflected light, and, when necessary the enamel is coloured by the addition of a pigment. The base is coated with enamel, and the metal, in finely powdered form and suspended in a vehicle such as oil of lavender is applied, the article being then dried and fired so that the metal powder is absorbed into the enamel; alternatively, the metal and vehicle may be melted and sprayed on to the surface, or applied as foil. The surface of the reflector may be coated in varying degrees so as to produce different reflective properties. The surface of the reflector may be formed as in Specification 252,880, [Class 75 (ii), Lamp chimneys &c.].
