[Class 32.] Liquids particularly acid liquids depositing sludge e.g. phosphoric acid are heated in a rotary tubular vessel d by direct contact with combustion gases from a burner c, the end of the vessel d at which the combustion gases enter being provided with an enlarged zone a to hold a deeper layer of liquid so that overheating of the liquid is prevented. The liquid is fed through a tube e situated in a hood f provided with a draw-off g for condensate and the concentrated liquid is collected in a receiver i. The tube may be covered with lead or the material known under the registered Trade Mark " Haveg."
