Abstract

356,952. Hinges with stays. BURT BROS., Ltd. and HARRIS, F. H., Crescent Copper Works, Edward Street, Parade, Birmingham. Sept. 20, 1930, No. 28109. [Classes 65 (i) and 65 (ii).] A hinge for the side mirror of a dressing table has a link pivotally mounted on one hinge plate and engaging a part on the other hinge plate to hold the mirror in any position. In the form shown, a slotted link 5, pivoted on a pin 4 on the hinge plate 2 fixed to the mirror support, slides on a pin 7, carried by a lug 6 on the other hinge plate 1, and is engaged by an adjustably spring-pressed washer on the pin 7. The hinge may be so constructed that the mirror and its hinge plate 1 can be lifted off, and the link is so mounted on the pin 4 as to be lifted off with the hinge plate 1. The link is shaped to lie close behind the mirror in all positions. In a modification, the link may have recesses or serrations engaged by a spring-controlled member. According to the Provisional Specification, the serrations are on the under side of the link and are engaged by a spring-pressed pin; alternatively, a fixed pin may be used, the link being pressed down by a spring on its pivot pin. The Provisional Specification also states that the link pivot and engaging device may be carried on attachment plates separate from the hinge parts.
