Abstract

356,795. Annealing and tempering. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd., 88, Regent Street, London. June 6, 1930, No. 17608. Convention date, June 21, 1929. [Class 72.] Cast-iron articles are made bv casting a blank in a chill mould, annealing, machining and hardening by heating and quenching. Iron preferably containing the following percentages 2À50 to 2À90 of silicon, up to 0À10 of sulphur, 0À42 to 0À48 of phosphorus, 0À60 to 0À80 of manganese and 3À40 to 3À70 of carbon, is poured into a permanent mould, the castings are softened at 1700‹ to 1750‹ F., cooled in air, machined, rough ground, heated to between 1550‹ and 1750‹ F., preferably 1650‹ for between 5 and 30 minutes, and quenched in oil.
