Abstract

356,331. Reducing resistance to propulsion. IVITSKY, V., 3, Guilford Place, Russell Square, London. June 17, 1930, No. 18504. [Classes 113 (i) and 113 (ii).] The resistance to propulsion of ships is reduced by the provision of endless power bands e which have little or no buoyance relatively to the buoyancy of the hull. The bands are supported on rollers b freely mounted on spindles a<1>, b<1>, c<1>, and are kept taut by the spring-pressed jockey-pulley m. A water propeller may assist propulsion and aerofoil surfaces such as n, o provide additional lift.
