Abstract
355,856. Protractors. DARGUE, A. W. and DARGUE, F. L., Simplon Works, South Street, Halifax, Yorkshire. June 12, 1930, No. 17989. [Class 97 (iii).] An adjustable square is characterized in that a right-angled set-square having pivoted to one end of its hypotenuse a base member in the form of a strip, the upper and lower edges of which are parallel, carries or has formed upon it a protractor struck from the centre about which it is pivoted to the base member, which carries a pointer co-operating with the protractor. As shown in the Figure, a represents a right-angled set-square having pivoted at b adjacent one end of its hypotenuse a<1> a base member c the upper and lower edges of which are parallel. The bracket member d has a pointer d' arranged to overlay the square and co-operate with the protractor e carried by or formed on the square a. Clamping is effected by a nut g on a bolt carried by the square and working in a segmental slot d<2> in a curved arm d<3> connecting the bracket d with the pointer d<1>. In a modification, the base member c carries a plate overlaying the square a, the plate carrying an indicating mark and having the edge adjacent the protractor curved to the appropriate radius.
