Abstract
Substances which arrest blood-coagulation are prepared by introducing salt-forming groups, such as CH2.COOH, SO3H, CH2.CH2.N(C2H5)2, into the polymerization products of propenylphenols and their derivatives by known methods. Examples are given of the preparation of (1) polymerized anethol-disulphonic acid by kneading polyanethol with concentrated sulphuric acid, (2) polymerized diethylaminoethylconiferyl alcohol by treating polymerized coniferyl alcohol with diethylaminoethyl bromide in the presence of sodium and alcohol, (3) polymerized coniferyl glycollic acid by heating polymerized coniferyl alcohol, obtained by alkaline hydrolysis of Siamese gum-benzoin, with chloracetic acid in the presence of aqueous sodium hydroxide. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes the introduction of saltforming groups into compounds of high molecular weight obtained by polymerization of aromatic starting materials, and contains two additional examples according to which (1) saliretin is treated with chloracetic acid in the presence of alcoholic sodium hydroxide to give polymerized saliretin glycollic acid, (2) phenol is condensed with formaldehyde in the presence of ammonia and the resulting resol heated with chloracetic acid in presence of sodium hydroxide whereby a resol glycollic acid is obtained. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
