Abstract

Esters of chloracetic acid and mono-, di- or tri-ethylene glycol or tri-methylene glycol are prepared by heating chloracetic acid and the corresponding glycol in an open flask at 125 DEG C. for 12 hours. The mixture is poured into water and neutralized with sodium carbonate. The ester is washed with water, dried over sodium sulphate and heated at 100 DEG C. under 20 mm. pressure to remove volatiles. The esters are used as plasticisers and modifying agents for aromatic amine aldehyde resins. Specification 576,836 is referred to.
