Abstract

355,440. Monogrammic signs; twoposition indicators. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd., Caxton House, Tothill Street, London, and GRINSTED, W. H., Under the Plane, London Lane, Bromley, Kent. July 7, 1930, No. 20517. [Classes 40 (i) and 118 (ii).] Monogrammic signs, suitable for multi-unit display indicators for use with totalizators, comprise fields of pivoted elements adapted to be swung electromagnetically into one or other of two positions. Each element consists of a flat plate 1 fitted with springs 7 and pivoted at its edge 6 to the end of a permanent magnet 5 arranged so as to induce like poles at the ends of a U-shaped core 4, 2, 4, each leg 4 being provided with a winding whereby it may be electrically magnetized to repel or attract the plate 1. A stationary sheet 10 of non-magnetic material co-operates with the pivoted flap to give the desired indications. For example, the halves of the sheet 10 may be of contrasting colours to correspond with the colours on each side of the pivoted flap. Alternatively, the sheet 10 may form a background for the indications on the two sides of the flap.
