Abstract

355,006. Control of D.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Hamilton, C. P. ; 2211, Plaza, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Aug. 6, 1930, No. 23591. Convention date, Aug. 9, 1929. [Class 38 (iii).] Varying electromotive force ; regenerative braking. -The motor 10 of an elevator &c. is operated at lowest speed by supply from a low-voltage generator 12 whose field is excited through reversing switches 31a, 31b or 32a, 32b. For higher speeds, the field of a high voltage generator 11 is excited through reversing switches 19a, 19b or 20a, 20b, and this generator is included in the motor circuit by the closing of switch 15a and opening of switch 15b. Thereafter speed control is effected by excluding resisters 21, 22, 23 from the field of generator 11. Upon opening of the reversing switches for either field circuit, that field is connected in a " suicide " circuit to the associated armature. The switches 15a, 15b are operated automatically upon closure of either switches 19a or 20a, all the other switches being energized according to the position of a manual controller.
