Abstract

518,287. Control of A.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 20, 1938, No. 24561. Convention date, Aug. 20, 1937. [Class 38 (iii)] The field structure of a synchronous motor is provided with an auxiliary single-phase winding, displaced with relation to the main field winding, to supply slip frequency current to a time-delayed relay which controls the connection of the field winding to its source of excitation. Upon closure of a switch 4 the motor 1 is connected to the supply with its field winding 6 connected in a closed circuit with a resistance 9. A relay 21 is operated and after a time interval closes its contacts 2C in the circuit of the coil of a switch E controlling the connection of the motor field to the D.C. supply 7. The circuit is not completed however until a relay 18 provided with a delay mechanism and fed through a rectifier 16 with slip frequency closes its contacts 19. The relay 18 is fed not from the field winding 6 but by an additional winding 13 mounted on the motor field structure in a position displaced from the field 6. Specification 384,567 is referred to.
