[Class 52 (iv).] In an apparatus for weighing and discharging feathers or down into quilts, a receptacle 5 for the reception of a supply of feathers is arranged upon a weighing machine 2 and is yieldingly connected with a conveying and introducing device (such as a blower 13 and a filling pipe 15) the operation of which is automatically terminated by the weighing machine when a predetermined weight of feathers has been filled into the quilt or into a prequilted web of the latter. The receptacle 5 may contain revolving beaters rotated by an electric motor 10. The feathers are withdrawn through a telescopic joint 11 yieldingly connected to the blower 13. The blower is secured to the underside of the work-table 16 and driven by a motor 14. The filling pipe 15 is adjustable in any desired direction over the table. In using the apparatus, the quilt case is placed on the table 16 and the filling pipe 15 inserted. A quantity of feathers is filled into the receptacle 5 and the weighing machine is counterbalanced by the sliding poises 3, 4. The poises are set back by an amount corresponding to the weight of feathers to be filled into the quilt and a lever key switch 18 is placed in position to start the motors 10, 14 and feed the feathers into the quilt. When the requisite weight of feathers has been supplied the movement of the weighing machine to equilibrium position displaces the switch and stops the motors.
