Group VI] Apparatus for making tea, coffee and like infusions comprises an infusion vessel 1 from which the infusion is dispensed through a filter strip which is drawn from a supply 10 so that a fresh filter is used for each infusion. As shown, vessel 1 comprises a cylindrical hollow part 6 with a sealing ring 7 which engages a fixed base 2 with a spout 3 having a restricted orifice plate 5. Boiling water is supplied to vessel 1 from pipe 8 through a rose 9. A roll 10 of filter material is mounted at one side and the strip is guided in a path 11 passing between base 2 and part 6 and being fed along by rolls 13, 14 when these parts are separated. Roll 14 is driven and is carried on a pivoted spring-biased bracket 15 mounted on a shaft 32. Pins 18 on part 6 pass through slots 19 in a hollow cylindrical guide structure 20 and engage slots 17 in spring-biased arms 16 connected by a yoke 21 and pivoted about the same axis as bracket 15. Arms 16 are operated by cams 22 carried on a shaft 23 which also carries cams 24 to operate bracket 15. An electric motor 28, through gears, drives shaft 23 which through further gears 30a, 31 and 33 drives shaft 15 and roll 14. Roll 14 has a reduced centre portion so that it engages only the edges of the filter. Between the supply roll and the infusion vessel, the filter strip is led over a table 34 above which is a hopper 35 through which tea and sugar from supplies 36, 37 can be deposited on the filter strip. A control mechanism is provided to control the operation which commences with infusion vessel 6 raised and causes the correct amount of tea and sugar to be deposited on to the filter strip. Driving motor 28 is then started which drives the feed rolls, already in engagement, drawing the filter strip forward beneath the infusion vessel. Cams 24 then separate roll 14 from roll 13, stopping the feed, but continued rotation of cams 22 lowers vessel 6 on to base 2 where it is held and the appropriate amount of hot water is delivered through rose 9.
