Abstract

353,657. Bowed-tube exchangers. WHITE, A. E., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Pfaudler Co. ; 89, East Avenue, Rochester, New York, U.S.A.) July 1, 1930, No. 19932. [Class 64 (iii).] In surface apparatus for heating or cooling fluids comprising a container for the fluid to be treated and a number of sections supported therein each having a separate feed for the treating fluid, the fluid from each section flows to outlet headers which intercommunicate by one-way discharge psssages to prevent back flow between the sections. The uppermost section comprises upper and lower inclined tubes 28, 29, the former having inlet and outlet headers 30, 31 superimposed upon corresponding headers 32, 33 of the latter. Valve 37 regulates the supply of fluid. A number of similar sections are mounted one above another, the lowermost having a discharge pipe 18 connected to the header extension 16a. Headers 32, 26 are provided with lower walls 40 which serve to close openings in headers 24, 12a respectively. Similar walls are. provided in the outlet headers. Fluid from each half section flows into adjacent headers and then into the headers of succeeding sections through openings 42 having valves 43. In a modification, each section is fed from a main header 47, Fig. 8, having five valved inlets 61 (two only shown). The inlet headers are separated by discs 57 .. 60 and each is fed by tubes 65, which communicate with the inlets 61. The remaining inlet discharges directly into the lowermost section. The outlet headers are provided with similar tubes supported over discharge valves in the wall 71 of the lowermost section. In either modification, any section may be cut out of operation.
