Abstract
353,653. Electric battery lamps. BAXTER & CAUNTER, Ltd. and KETTLEWELL, G. W., 221, Tottenham Court Road, London. June 27, 1930, No. 19577. [Class 39 (ii).] A torch for displays at galas, fÛtes, carnivals and the like comprises one or more electric lamp bulbs 3 enclosed in a translucent slide 2 mounted on the end of a staff 1 and adapted to receive current from a dry battery 7 mounted on or in the staff. The shade 2 may be of white or coloured material, or the bulbs 3 may be coloured. The top and bottom plates of the shade are formed to prevent light being thrown on to the bearer ; they may be formed as reflectors to concentrate the light within the shade, or separate reflectors may be employed. The battery 7 may be secured to the staff 1 by a pair of clips 8, Fig. 1, and may rest on a metal bracket 9 forming a terminal to which one lead 6 may be connected, the second lead 5, being connected to the terminal 10 through a switch 11. Alternatively the staff may be formed from two tubular sections 1, 1x, Fig. 2, of non-conducting material connected together by the threaded engagement of a metal sleeve 12 secured to the section 1 and a metal cap 13 secured to the section 1x. The terminal 10 contacts with a part 14 to which the lead 5 is connected, the part 14 being secured to the section 1 at 15, whilst the lead 6 is connected at 16 to the cap 13. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the sections 1, 1x are made of metal and the part 14 constitutes a switch which is moved longitudinally by an external button 17 or the like. The part 14 is insulated from the section 1 by means of a sleeve 18 the inner end of which is turned inwardly to prevent endwise movement of the battery.
