Abstract

353,262. Diaphragms. YOUNG, L. 31A, Hereford Road, Acton, and BRIGINSHAW, O. S., 25, Brondesbury Road, Kilburn, both in London. July 30, 1930, No. 22950. [Class 40 (iv).] In a soundreproducing instrument of the type having a relatively small diaphragm and an acoustic horn, the diaphragm is formed in one or more pieces wholly or mainly of a cellulose derivative, such as celluloid or cellulose acetate, or of a synthetic resin or like synthetic material, such as those known under the registered Trade Marks Bakelite and Celastoid, and consists of a diaphragm portion proper, a carrying flange therefor, and a portion upon which the moving speech coil is directly mounted, the whole constituting a unitary structure. The diaphragm 7 has an outer flange portion 8, which is adapted to be clamped between the horn carrier 5 and the cap 3 of a pot magnet casing 1, and a cylindrical portion 9, on to which the speech coil is wound, the portion 9 and speech coil being located in the annular magnetic gap 4. The parts 7, 8. 9 of the diaphragm may be formed integrally as shown, or the part 7 may be attached by cement, dope, &c., to a separate member forming the flange 8 and cylinder 9, or to two separate members forming the flange and cylinder respectively.
