Abstract
353,096. Hand driving-mechanism. SUMMERSCALES, W. H. G. and KAY, J., Parkside Works, Keighley, Yorkshire. April 29, 1930, No. 13112. [Class 136 (ii).] In a mangle or wringer that is driven from a handwheel 4 &c. through worm gearing b, a, the shaft 3 of the worm is arranged at an angle other than a right-angle to the vertical plane of the rollers and may also be inclined to the horizontal. The top roller receives the drive first and the worm shaft is carried by a bracket c suspended from the top roller shaft and guided by the engagement of a lug c<2> in the vertical slot in the frame A. In order that the hand - wheel or crank may be folded to an inoperative position it is provided with a shaft portion 6 having an ear 6a, Fig. 6, which fits between the limbs of the bifurcated end of the shaft 3, a pivot pin 8 connecting the ear and limbs and a locking pin 10 being provided for holding the shafts 3, 6 in operative engagement. The hand-wheel may be provided with a folding handle 11.
