[Class 83 (iii).] Tools.-In an attachment to a gear cutting machine, a number of gears 1, 2 mounted either singly or in superposed sets on separate mandrels 3, 4, are generated simultaneously by means of a single reciprocating cutter 5 having rack tooth sections coacting with each set of blanks. More than two mandrels may be employed and the tool may consist of a number of separate rack cutters mounted in a single holder. The rotary generating movements of the blanks may be obtained through worm gearing 10 and spur gears 6, 7, 8. By removing the attachment the normal work spindle 11 may be used for cutting large gears.
