Abstract

940,893. Gear-cutting. H. HURTH, and F. HURTH. Sept. 20, 1961 [Sept. 30, 1960], No. 33642/61. Headings B3B and B3K. A hobbing machine for deburring or rounding the teeth of spur or bevel gears comprises a tool slide 12 and a work-slide 14 fed in planes parallel to one another. The slide guideways 11, 13 are machined with their faces in the same plane on a one-piece frame 16 which may have an integral or attached base 47. The hob-slide 12 carries a driving motor 18 which rotates the hob 30, on an angularly-adjustable mounting 25, and a feed-screw 45 mounted in a gear-box 37 bolted to horizontal and vertical surfaces of the machine base to act as a stiffener. The work-slide 14 is guided by a ledge 60 on the base. The work and hob are both supported by tailstocks at their free ends. The work-feed gear is contained in a box 61. The work is clamped by a cylinder which may act through a lever. The various slides and gear-boxes are prefabricated units such that several may be mounted on one machine. A machine having several hobs to cut, de-burr, or round gear-teeth may be built up and may incorporate boring and milling units. A frame may also be made having guides 11, 13 on each side. A shaving extraction opening 15 is machined in the-base.
