Abstract
351,663. Printing-surfaces. WOLFSOHN, K., 6, Schwõbische Strasse, Schoneberg, and INTERNATIONALE TIEFDRUCK-GES., 110, Alexandrinenstrasse, both in Berlin. May 10, 1930, No. 14498. [Class 100 (ii).] To enable a copper skin bearing an intaglio printing-surface to be readily stripped from its base after use, a layer of amalgam is applied to the base before the deposition of the copper and the copper is deposited thereon in an acid bath. As shown, an iron roller 1 is provided with a sleeve 2 of copper or other amalgamizable metal. The surface of the sleeve 2 is treated with a solution of mercury chloride in potassium cyanide to form a layer 3 of amalgam. A copper skin 5 is then deposited in an acid bath. The acid bath causes the formation of a thin film 4 of mercury sulphate which permits of ready removal of the skin, when desired, after slitting the skin circumferentially and longitudinally by knives 6, 7 respectively.
