[Class 53.] Supports for electrodes.-An insulating support a for the plates e, f of an accumulator is provided with ridges d<1>, d<2> parallel with the lower edges of the plates f, e respectively which rest upon them. The support a may be separate or the ridges may be formed on the base of the container b. The ridges d<1>, d<2> which carry the negative and positive plates f, e, respectively, are staggered and extend one-third the length of the base z leaving spaces c for the accumulation of sediment. The ridges d<1>, d2 are arranged under the negative and positive terminals respectively to take pressure which is usually applied to the terminals of the plates to keep them on their supports. Transverse ridges i support the separators (not shown) and may provide supplementary support to the plates. In a modification, Fig. 8, four sets of ridges alternately supporting the positive and negative plates are provided and each set is provided with a transverse ridge for supporting the separators. A shallower ridge may be provided around the sides and ends and along the centre of the base for reinforcing the support. In another modification the ridges d<1>, d<2> run substantially the whole length of the support and sediment spaces may be increased by making gaps in the ridges.
