[Class 53.] Cells; electrodes; connections.-The containers of the cells of a dry battery are made in one piece by pressing or moulding papiermache, rubberized bitumen, &c. to form a number of compartments having integral walls 7. Each compartment may be formed with a depression 9 to receive the lower end of the carbon electrode 13. The zinc electrodes are made by bending a sheet of zinc into cylindrical form, a gap being left between the edges as shown at 12 in Fig. 4. An integral lug 11 connects the zinc to the carbon of an adjacent cell. A papier-mÔchÚ container may be rendered liquidtight by immersion in pitch or varnish.
