Abstract

230,184. Joel, H. F. Dec. 6, 1923. Electrodes; separators.-An electrode of cylindrical type for storage batteries is built up of a number of pasted cylindrical elements each complete in itself. The element may have a central rod A surrounded by a lead spiral S, or may have vertical and horizontal ribs, to retain the paste. The elements (six shown) are assembled by means of lugs L in end plates R, leaving channels Z between' adjacent elements for passage of electrolyte. Each element may have a porous or perforated insulating sheet E or an insulating sheath may be provided outside, and following the contour of, the composite electrode P. The electrode rests on a support C. The surrounding electrode N consists of a cylindrical lead frame internally pasted with active material protected by perforated lead sheathing, and formed with vertical ribs W to follow the external contour of the inner composite electrode.
