Abstract

570,309. Batteries. FULLER, L., and SUDLOW, E. W. Oct. 21, 1943, No. 17382. [Class 53] In a dry secondary battery having two or more electrodes, each outer electrode comprises an insulating tray 19 containing a lead sheet 22 to which is applied active material to completely fill the tray. The trays are placed together with their bottoms on the outside and a porous separator 13, for example, of kieselguhr between them, the assembly being forced into a box 10 and compacted so,that the box is completely filled. The cell is closed by an unglazed porcelain member 14 and a sealing layer of pitch 18 having a gas vent 17. The lead sheets 22 have projecting lugs 23 passing through apertures in the sides of the trays 19 to form terminals 15. The lead plates may have short spikes 30, Fig. 3, extending up to one third or one half of the thickness of the active material. Specifications 1890/01, [Class 531, and 561,056 are referred to.
