[Class 28 (i).] Cast iron hot-plates and grids for supporting cooking utensils are formed by casting the metal round reinforcing insertions of wire, mesh, strip, or rod, of iron or other metal, the insertions having the form of a closed geometrical figure and surrounding the whole surface of the plate &c. and also the apertures therein. The cooking-stove hot-plate shown is reinforced on the underside by deep ribs 1, shallower ribs 3, 4, and peripheral ribs 5, 6, the latter being formed as shown at 8, 9 in Fig. 4, so that a number of hot-plate sections may be assembled with their adjacent edges overlapping. The reinforcing insertions 11 are made of iron wire, and are formed as continuous lengths extending from the point 12 to the adjacent point 13. Contacting parts of the insertions are held together by clamps 14, the ends 15, 16 of which are alternately bent up and down to constitute supports which position the insertion in the mould. Beams or carrier rods for supporting the hot-plates are cast with similar reinforcements. The insertions may be coated with suitable substances, such as tin, zinc, or oil, to facilitate the casting operation. A grid formed with parallel bars reinforced by an insertion of zig-zag form is described, the insertion having upturned ends which position it vertically in the mould.
