Abstract

Making emulsions; colloidal sols; lubricants; splitting fats; dust-binding agents.--Alkyl and cycloalkyl esters of sulphonic acids derived from aromatic carboxylic acids containing more than one benzene ring, in view of their wetting, penetrating, and dispersing qualities are used for the dispersion of powders, e.g. dyes and pigments and the preparation of fat-splitting and dust-binding agents, drilling oils, and spinning lubricants. The esters may be used alone or in association with aromatic sulphonic acids or their salts, sulphonated oils, soaps or fat solvents, e.g. hydrocarbons, chlorhydrocarbons, alcohols, and ketones. The mono esters derived from naphthoic sulphonic acid and the mono esters of disulphonic acids derived from carboxy acids containing more than one benzene ring are specified. The dispersion and emulsification of fats, dressings, and impurities in the treatment of textiles with neutral acid or alkaline liquids is mentioned. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use for the same purposes of alkyl and cycloalkyl esters of sulphonic acids of any substituted aromatic hydrocarbon, the halogen, nitro, hydroxy, and carboxy derivatives being specified. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Alkyl and cycloalkyl esters of sulphonic acids derived from aromatic carboxylic acids containing more than one benzene ring, in view of their wetting, penetrating and dispersing qualities are used for the dispersion of powders, e.g. dyes and pigments and the preparation of cosmetics, e.g. salves and creams, lypolitics, vermicides, dust-binding agents, drilling oils, pickles for metals, inks and ceramic masses, and they may also be added to liquid and plastic preparations used in treating textiles, e.g. foam dyebaths and spinning preparations, leather and paper, and in dyeing fur. The esters may be used alone or in association with aromatic sulphonic solvents, e.g. hydrocarbons, chlorhydrocarbons, alcohols, and ketones, and may be prepared from the acids and alcohols, using hydrochloric acid as conacids or their salts, sulphonated oils, soaps or fat densing agent. The mono esters derived from naphthoic sulphonic acid and the mono esters of disulphonic acids derived from carboxy acids containing more than one benzene ring are specified. The dispersion and emulsification of fats, dressings and impurities in the treatment of textiles with neutral, acid or alkaline liquids is mentioned. Specifications 350,425 and 315,832, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use for the same purposes, of alkyl and cycloalkyl esters of sulphonic acids of any substituted aromatic hydrocarbon, the halogen, nitro, hydroxy and carboxy derivatives being specified. The use of the esters in the pharmaceutical industry is also mentioned. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Alkyl and cycloalkyl esters of sulphonic acids derived from aromatic carboxylic acids containing more than one benzene ring, in view of their wetting, penetrating and dispersing qualities are used in pickling baths for metals.
