Abstract

Rubber is compounded with an ethylene polysulphide plastic, such as is derived from the reaction of a polysulphide with an olefine dihalide as described in Specification 302,270, [Class 70, Indiarubber &c.], in the absence of free sulphur, and the mixture is vulcanized by heat. The soft plastic, containing 70 per cent and upwards of combined sulphur is preferred. The proportion of rubber may vary, the higher the percentage the more nearly does the compound approach vulcanized rubber in tensile strength. Fillers, pigments, accelerators may be added. Several examples of proportions, ingredients, &c. are given in the Specification.
