Abstract

Waste celluloid dissolved in acetone is treated with the amount of hydrochloric acid necessary to remove the zinc oxide and then with tri-chlorethylene to precipitate the nitro cellulose, which is then washed and dried. The solution is then purified by distillation with steam and the camphor is recovered from it by evaporation.
