Abstract
<PICT:0348242/III/1> <PICT:0348242/III/2> In a process for cracking oils in which the oils are cracked under pressure and then passed into a vaporizing chamber, the pressure on the oils is reduced on admission to the vaporizer so that they are sprayed in finely divided form on to heating surfaces arranged in the vaporizer. The oil after passing through a cracking vessel (not shown) is passed from a pipe 9 through pipes 2 in a vaporizing chamber 1 and then through reducing valves 12 to pipes 3 provided with perforations from which it is sprayed on to the pipes 2, the latter being thus heated by the oil itself. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the cracked oil is sprayed through nozzles 16 on to plates 17 and thence on to pipes 13 heated by waste gases from the flue 14, a bypass 22 being provided to regulate the heat.
