Abstract

1,186,614. Decoking of pyrolysis apparatus. IDEMITSU PETROCHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 13 July, 1967 [25 July, 1966]. No. 32390/67. Heading C5E. A thermal cracking apparatus for manufacturing ethylene from naphtha which comprises a pyrolysis furnace 1 with internal piping 2 and a transfer line exchanger 5 is decoked by passing an oxidizing gas through the heated furnace to oxidize deposited carbon from the apparatus whilst the combustion products are passed out through the branch pipe 8. The gas passed into the furnace at the start of the decoking operation suitably comprises 100% steam and subsequently comprises a proportion of air which is increased up to 100%.
