[Classes 142 (i), 142 (iii), and 142 (iv).] In apparatus for weaving leno fabrics, such as that shown in Fig. 1 which is cut up to form chenille yarn as shown in Fig. 2, wherein leno warps c tie in the wefts in pairs, as shown, or singly or otherwise, the straight warps a either singly or in groups are passed through bail separators 45 arranged on the reed in front of spaces therein, the warps a then passing through needles 4 on a rail 6, thence over a guide roller 5 to the heald frame 3 which is moved up and down by chains and wires from a lever controlled by a grooved cam. The leno warps c are passed through holes in rails 1, 2 which are supported by but are movable longitudinally in the heald frame. The rails engage in the vertical slots of slides 38, 38, shown in plan view in Fig. 7, which are moved horizontally in a fixed U-shaped bail or guide by rods 35, 36 and levers on a shaft 33 rocked by lever mechanism controlled by a grooved cam. The rails are thus moved in opposite directions to cause the warps c to cross one another in pairs between each pick or pair of picks. The heald 3 is first raised, whereupon the warps c are caused to cross one another over the warps a. The heald 3 is then lowered whereupon the warps a are guided accurately by the parts 45, 4 into the spaces between the crossed warps c, the free ends of the bails 45 passing between the warps c before these engage between the guiding needles 4. A weft is then inserted, the heald 3 is raised, the weft is beaten up and the warps c are again crossed, &c.
