Abstract
347,997. Gas-irons. KEITH & BLACKMAN CO., Ltd., J. and KEITH, G., 27, Farringdon Avenue, London. Sept. 4, 1930, No. 26438. [Class 138 (ii).] In gas-heated laundry irons of the type in which the gas mixing chamber is bounded by a thick upstanding wall thermally integral with the sole, the wall is intersected bv sawcuts which are themselves intersected by holes, drilled in the wall either vertically or at a slight inclination to the vertical, forming combustion chambers. The combustion chambers are formed by vertical holes 17 inter. secting sawcuts 16 in a thick wall 15 thermally integral with the sole 1, the holes 17 being connected at the top by a groove 20 having openings 21 leading to the exterior from any of which openings the entire set of burners may be lit. Preferably a corrugated metal strip 19 is provided in each sawcut between the hole 17 and the mixing chamber 18 to prevent backfire. The nippleholder 8 and the gas regulator comprising a rotatable plug 22 are locked in position by a screw 23 engaging a cross-bar 24 the upper end of which engages a slot 10<1> in the nipple-holder, the lower end having an aperture through which extends the outer end of the plug 22 which is provided with a collar 23. A modified regulator, Fig. 1, comprises a screwed plug 29 with a lock-nut 30.
