Abstract
346,872. Air supply to furnaces. SCOGNIO, J., 82, Van Riper Avenue, Paterson, New Jersey, U.S.A. Jan. 25, 1930, No. 2683. [Class 51 (i).] In a furnace in which, to consume smoke, sheets of air are directed from the front of the furnace towards a passage 11 over the firebridge 3 and from the bridge upwardly and rearwardly, the two sheets converge in the upper part of a space A between the bridge 3 and a baffle 4 which latter is formed with an outlet 12 for the gases in its lower part and with small perforations 13 in its upper part. The two supplies of air are induced by rows of steam-air injectors 14, 15 arranged above the firing opening 6 and in the bridge 3 respectively. A hinged plate 30, operated by a hand-lever 33, is provided to prevent an undesirable cooling draught of air from entering the passage A when the injectors 15 are shut off.
