[Class 100 (iv).] Index type-bar machines.-To reduce the width of adding or typing machines having differentialsetting arrangements comprising groups of long and short slides 2, 2<1>, Figs. 1 and 3, provided with handles, the handles 3, 3<1> of the long and short slides are carried by oppositely cranked members 5, 5<1> and move in alternating planes. The slides may carry sliding types 9 which are depressed through a slot 13 in the casing 1 by means of hammers 17 connected by springs 18 to a lever 15 operated by a button 19. The slides have index strips 6 visible through a slot 7. Aligning notches in the slides co-operate with a detent 24, and a dog 20 on a finger-lever 22.
