Abstract
346,006. Adjustable hinges for seats. CLIFFORD, F. S., Rhydlanfair, Shepherds Hill, Merstham, Surrey. Jan. 1, 1930, No. 62. [Class 65 (ii).] In a hinging system for tiltable seats, adapted to allow of adjustment for differences in the distance between the fixed hinge members and for misalignment of the fixed members with respect to the pivoting axis, and to enable side play to be prevented when the seat does not fit closely between the fixed members, two brackets 6, Fig. 1, are fixed to the seat supports 7 and carry pins 5 which project into a bore in the hinging portion 2 of the seat 1. The brackets 6 have in their base surfaces slots 8, of T-section, in which the heads of the fixing bolts 10 engage, so that the brackets may be adjusted in a direction perpendicular to the pivoting axis; further adjustment may be obtained by interchanging the two brackets so that the open ends of the slots face forwards. The bore in the hinging portion of the seat is lined with a tube 3 having an internal screw thread with which engage two threaded plugs 4, which allow the seat to be located, without play, between the brackets 6, whatever the distance between the latter. In a modification, the pins may be carried by the seat.
