Abstract
344,778. Pillion seats. MOSELEY & SONS, Ltd., D. and COCKS, A. G., Chapel Field Works, Ardwick, Manchester. Oct. 4, 1929, No. 30087. [Class 136 (i).] Means for securing a pillion seat to a motor cycle &c. of the type not provided with a luggage-carrier comprises a pair of struts 14 rigidly or pivotally secured to the front part of the base of the seat 9, clips 15 adjustable along the struts, as by means of a series of holes 14a, and adapted to engage the rear stays 10 of the cycle, and means, such as bolts 15a, for clamping the clips in position on the struts and stays. The rear of the seat is secured to the mudguard 11 by means of clips 16, Figs. 1 and 3, which engage the edges of the mudguard and are mounted on bolts 17, provided with wing-nuts 17a and fitted in transverse slots 12a in the base 12 of the seat, so that the bolts may be adjusted transversely according to the width of the mudguard. The base 12 may be removably mounted in a pocket 9a formed in the casing of the seat cushion, as described in Specification 344,437, and the seat cushion may be hinged to the base in the manner described in Specification 344,438. The base terminates short of the rear end of the seat, and the rear portion of the bottom of the seat is flexible, so as to yield to the curvature of the mudguard. The base terminates short of the front end of the seat, in order to present a soft surface to the back of the driver on the saddle, the end of the seat being also concaved.
