[Class 29.] Absorption systems.-In a reversing system comprising a generator-absorber 1 and a condenser - evaporator 4 connected by a single pipe 3 without valves, and adapted to be turned through a rightangle from the generating position shown to the cooling position, a partition 2 is provided across the gas space of the generatorabsorber and the pipe 3 leads to the left-hand side of the upper space. A perforated tube depends from the partition into the liquid, and an aperture 2a in the partition or 5a in the tube is located so as to be in the liquor space in the cooling position. If the apparatus is left in the generating position, with the vessel 1 surrounded by cold water, evaporation and absorption proceed only until the upper layer of liquid is saturated, and no substantial cooling takes place.
