Abstract
A stationary spinning funnel for use in the stretchspinning process has a flared bottom portion as in the parent Specification and also has longitudinal recesses, channels or grooves affording an even internal surface, formed within its walls so as to control the movements of the coagulating liquid and of the filaments. The funnel may take the form of a fish-tail developing from a true cylinder at the upper end to an ellipse at the lower end, or as shown in Fig. 2, the funnel 1 may be abruptly flattened so as to form a channel down which the filaments are made to travel, thus reducing undesired disturbance of the liquid to a minimum. In Fig. 3, the face of the funnel nearest the yarncollecting device is made concave. As shown in Fig. 4, a groove 3 is formed in a vertical direction <PICT:0344560/IV/1> <PICT:0344560/IV/2> <PICT:0344560/IV/3> <PICT:0344560/IV/4> on the face of the funnel. In use the filaments pass down this groove and cause a confined downward flow of liquid which cannot be greatly agitated by the upward flow. For use in spinning separate bundles of filaments, the front face of the funnel may be indented as shown at 4 in the plan view in Fig. 7. The filaments are thus divided into separate streams which may be separately collected. The funnels may be used in connection with spinnerettes or caps adapted to produce two or more bundles of filaments in each funnel and the caps may have removable or adjustable nozzles fitted on to curved branches to direct the cellulose solution into the grooves in the funnel.
