O. LEUCHS ET AL APPARATUS FOR USE IN THE WORKING UP OF SPINNING SOLUTIONS Filed Mare, 1925.
Patented June 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO LEUCES AND EMIL H'U'BERT, OF ELBERFELD, GERMANY, ASSIGNORS TO FAR- BENFAIBRIKEN VORM. FRIEDR. BAYER'AND (30., OF LEVERKUSEN, NEAR COLOGNE- ON-THE-IRHINE, GERMANY.
APPARATUS FOR USE IN THE WORKING UP OF SPINNING SOLUTIONS.
Application filed Kay 9, 1925, Serial No. 29,243, and in Germany June 21, 1924.
The present invent-ion relates to apparatus for the manufacture of artificial silk according to the stretching-spinning process and has for its object an improvement upon I the apparatus disclosed in the United States.
Patent No. 1.517.627 granted Dec. 2, 1924.
It is the principal object of the invention to provide moans tending to inhibit the formation of whirls in the liquid of the flowing 10 bath to bring about asteady and quiet spinning operation.
Another object is to provide means whereby air bubbles contained in the water .bath are intercepted and prevented from reaching the spinning nozzle where they could detrimentally affect the spinning operation.
For a full disclosure, reference is made to the accompanying drawing wherein Fig. 1 'is a more or less diagrammatic perspective view of an apparatus embodying the invention; and Fig. 2 a similar view of the most important detail thereof.
In the drawings (1 represents a spinning cylinder containing at the top the spinning nozzle 6. The spinning tube 0 is centrally disposed below the nozzle and extends through the bottom of the cylinder. At the top and bottom are inlets f and f respectively, for the spinning bath liquid.
The apparatus thus far described is part of the prior art. The principal novel feature is the umbrella-shaped hood (1 near the upper end of the spinning tube a. This hood is instrumental in" inhibiting the formation of whirls in the spinning liquid. In the space under the hood the tube 0 is preferably provided with a perforation e allowing the entrapped air to be drawn off by the aspirating action of the downward stream in the tube 0.
The cold water is introduced through the inlet f preferably through a funnel 9 converging upwardly toward the tube a defining therewith a narrow annular space through which the water is projected upwardly against the hood d as a batlie. The water is thus forced around the hood while the air is collected under the hood and may be readily drawn out as mentioned. I
The size of the hood (1 is advantageously made to fitthe spinning apparatus and care should be taken not to make it too small.
We claim:
1. In an apparatus for the manufacture of artificial silk, the combination with a spinning cylinder, a spinning nozzle, a splnning tube and inlets at the top and at the bottom for spinning bath liquids, of an umbrellashaped hood on thespinning tube near the end thereof opposed to the spinning nozzle. 00
2. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the spinning tube is provided with a perforation in the space under the hood.
3. Apparatus according to claim 1,-including an upwardly converging funnel 'sur- 66 rounding the spinning tube and cooperating with the inlet at the bottom to direct the liquid entering therethrough against the said hood. y
In testimony whereof we have hereunto 70 set 'onr hands.
- OTTO LEUCHS. 1 EMIL' HUBERT.
