Abstract

292,561. Ruth-Aldo Co., Inc., (Assignees of Klein, M.). June 22, 1927, [Convention date]. Grant of Patent opposed. Apparatus for making filaments. - Apparatus for the dry-spinning of artificial silk comprises a spinning cell fitted with a downwardly directed nozzle F, Fig. 1, in the top which is provided with air inlet openings E so that cold air is drawn around the spinning nozzle and the thread, and divided into two zones by a diaphragm so that, with properly regulated aspiration, the heated air in the lower zone is prevented from ascending into the upper zone and is drawn out with solvent vapour from the bottom of the cell at D. As shown, the dividing partition may consist of a horizontal diaphragm in two sections, one of which MP is fixed and the other PN hinged at P and provided with an opening B, Fig. 4, which is shaped so that this section can be lowered when spinning is commenced. The opening B can be further closed, when spinning is in progress, by a sliding or rotating member, so that only the very small aperture necessary for the thread is left open in the diaphragm. A plurality of such diaphragms may be arranged in the cell to permit the regulation of the temperature and density of the vapour laden air at various levels in the spinning cell.
