Abstract

<PICT:0343823/III/1> A circulation system for a marine condenser includes a conduit having an inlet acting as a scoop at the exterior of the ship's hull, the conduit increasing in area in the direction of the flow of water to effect a velocity pressure conversion. One or more guide blades may be provided in a curved connecting portion extending beyond the hull. The inlet for the condenser is constituted by a scoop 13 parallel with the ship's hull 10 and at its curved portion 15 where it passes through the ship's framework a guide vane 16 is used. The cross-sectional area of this pipe increases until the valve on the condenser is reached. In the complete installation where a turbine 41 is mounted on a condenser 42 the inlet 43 and the outlet 44 are coupled to pipes 48, 55 and have valves 52, 54 respectively. On the inlet side the entry 46 projects beyond the hull and is abruptly changed in direction so as to be free from the interference with the transverse frames 12. In this case entrance vanes 49 are provided and side guards 51 fitted to the hull. A circulating pump 53 may be provided as a standby.
