Description

Device for extracting exhaust gases from screw steamers with internal combustion engine drives. In the diesel engine drives known up to now for ships, the exhaust gases are released into the open.

According to the present invention, the exhaust gases are mixed with part of the propeller buoyancy water in screw steamers with internal combustion engine drive.

Embodiments of the invention are shown schematically in the drawing. Fig. 1 illustrates a longitudinal section through such a device; Fig. 2 shows a cross section through air and water nozzles; 3 and 4 show combinations with a water turbine.

1 and 2, part of the water displaced by the ship's propeller 2 (called drive water) is collected in the middle of a collecting funnel 1 and its pressure is converted into speed in the water nozzle 3. The hot scavenging air or exhaust gases flow through slots 4 between the water lines, mix with the water in the mixing space 5 and are cooled. This cooling causes a strong reduction in volume and accordingly a certain negative pressure is established in the mixing room 5. In the diffuser 6, the speed is converted into pressure. The water already has the speed of entry in the collecting funnel 1 from the propeller and this does not have to be generated separately.

In order to further utilize the energy of the mixed water, according to FIG. 3, it is fed to a turbine unit consisting of a guide apparatus 9, impeller 10, housing 11 and outlet connection 12.

The air separates from the top of the pressure space 7 through openings 8 from the water and escapes through lines 14 and 15. The work power obtained on the turbine wheel 10 is aufgenom men from the shaft 13 and can be used for auxiliary drives or the propeller shaft 16 are fed. According to FIG. 4, the exhaust gases supplied through the line 17 are mixed with the buoyancy water in the turbine guide apparatus.

The device is closed to the ship's hull 18 without an external intermediate space in order to avoid shock losses.
