343,331. Free-wheel clutches. REBOUL, M. H., 17, Rue Raisin, St. Etienne, Loire, France. Feb. 28, 1930, No. 6701. Convention date, March 6, 1929. [Class 80 (ii).] A free-wheel clutch comprises spring-pressed or gravity pawls 0 free to oscillate in all directions so as to bear over the full width of the ratchet teeth M in spite of faulty construction and bearing play, and the usual dust-excluding covers are replaced by integral parts of the free-wheel itself. Each pawl 0 lies in a recess B open on one side only and can. pivot about its end D in both lateral and radial directions. To cover in the pawl housings and ratchet teeth M, the ratchet element L may have a raised flange N adapted to be rolled over and, if necessary, machined. The hub A has a ball-bearing race C, the balls for which may be lodged in a cage Q, Fig. 7. Where the flange N is not provided, the cage Q has dust-excluding flanges U, V on one or both sides. The bearing balls may be inserted through a plugged hole F in the hub A or member L.
