[Class 38 (v).] Cases.-The cable ends are secured in a compartment A to terminate carrying contacts a<3> which are engaged by contacts c<1> which, with the fuses C, are carried by a frame C<1> on a shaft D. The switch is opened by rotating handle D<1>, which is loose on the shaft D, until a pin d thereon engages the end of a slot d<1> on a plate d<2> keyed to the shaft D, whereupon a spring d<3> between the plate d2 and handle D<1> gives a quick break. Further movement of the handle D<1> carries the fuses into compartment E where they can be inspected by raising the lid E<1>, linkage e, e<1> causing a shutter E<2> to move to cover the entrance to the tank B. At the opposite end to the handle, the shaft has an apertured crank d<5> moving within an apertured flange on the casing A so that the switch can be padlocked in its extreme positions by passing a padlock through the aperture d<6>, d<7>. The lid E<1> may also be padlocked. The Specification also refers to a spring automatically opening the switch on rupture of a fuse.
