Abstract

342,904. Grinding and mixing mills. SIMPSON, H. S., 549, West Washington Boulevard, Chicago, U.S.A. Feb. 7, 1930, No. 4261. [Classes 59 and 86.] The driving shaft 8 is mounted in bearings 12, 9, the bearing 12 being supported in a cover 7 of a cylindrical central casing 2 forming a dust-excluding chamber for the bevel wheels 24, 25, and the bearing 9 being supported on the flange of an opening in the base of the chamber. The bevel wheel 25 is mounted in a sleeve 5 and the mesh of the bevel wheels is adjusted by shims 26, 27. Each roller 17 is mounted on an arm 16 pivoted at 15 in a bifurcation of the head 14, each bifurcation being bridged by a web 21 which is straddled by a channelshaped portion 22 on the arm 16 so that shims 23 may be placed between the channel and web to adjust the height of the roller from the pan 3. The ground material is discharged through doors 28 pivoted at 29 and supported by a toggle 30, 31 pivoted to a piston rod 36 of a pneumatic cylinder 34 mounted on trunnions 37. Ploughs for directing the sand or the like into the path of the rollers are supported by arms connected to the head 14.
